The Miraculous Medal Prayer

O Virgin Mother of God,
Mary Immaculate,
we dedicate and consecrate ourselves to you
under the title of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal.
May this Medal be for each one of us
a sure sign of your affection for us
and a constant reminder of our duties toward you.
Ever while wearing it,
may we be blessed by your loving protection
and preserve in the grace of your Son.
O Most powerful Virgin,
Mother of our Savior,
keep us close to you
every moment of our lives.
Obtain for us, your children,
the grace of a happy death;
so that, in union with you,
we may enjoy the
bliss of heaven forever.
Amen.

Daughters of Charity in France

Our Lady in the year 1830, appeared three times to Sister Catherine Laboure.
This took place in the Chapel of the Motherhouse of the Daughters of Charity, 140 Rue du Bac in Paris.

On the night of July 18, Sister Catherine was awakened by an angel who led her to the chapel to meet for the first time with The Blessed Virgin Mother.  The Blessed Mother told her all the problems that would occur in France and the Church in the future.

On November 27, while Sister Catherine was meditating in the chapel,
The Blessed Mother showed herself in two visions:

  • First she was seen standing on a globe while clasping in hand another globe surmounted by a cross.  This smaller globe then disappeared and her hands were shown - outstretched.  The Blessed Mother were covered with rings set in precious stones which reflected rays of many colors.  An oval which appeared around the full figure of the Blessed Virgin Mother were the words, O Mary Conceived without sin pray for us who have recourse to Thee.
  • The vision changed and Sister Catherine saw the letter "M" surmounted on a cross, standing on a bar.  Below this two hearts were shown:
    • The Sacred Heart surrounded by thorns.
    • The other the Sorrowful Heart penetrated by a sword.

The second part of the vision are the two sides of the Miraculous Medal which Sister Catherine was instructed to have made.  The Medal was made according to Our Blessed Mother design.  The Medal is a symbol of Mary's love and all who wear the Medal will receive great graces, her maternal protection.
