A Scapular Prayer

O most Beautiful Flower of Carmel, Fruitful Vine, Splendor of Heaven, Blessed Mother of the Son of God, Immaculate Virgin, assist me in this my time of need.  O star of the Sea, help me, and show me that you are my Mother.

O Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to assist me in this my hour of urgent need.  Show me that you are my Mother.  God, our Father, never leaves unaided those for whom you pray

O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you.

     Amen!

Saint Simon Stock, Feast Day

Brief History of the Scapular:

Saint Simon Stock was a Carmelite Priest.
Facing many internal and external problems for the
Carmelites approval among Churchmen in England.
Saint Simon Stock prayed to our Lady for help.

On July 16, 1251, at Aylesford in Kent, England, The Blessed Virgin Mother appeared to Saint Simon Stock and made the scapular the sign of her protection.
After the Apparition at Aylesford in Kent.
The Blessed Mother was called Our Lady of Aylesford.

Notes:
  • The picture on top is the Madonna, the Blessed Mother holding the infant Jesus in one arm and extending her apron.  The brown apron, the scapular is to be worn over the shoulders to cover
    the front and back.

  • Fatima has adopted the brown scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel as a sign of consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
During the Miracle of the Sun at Fatima on October 13, 1917, the Blessed Virgin Mother appeared as Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
  • On August 15, 1950 Sister Lucia confirms scapular is one of the conditions of the Fatima Message.  Sister Lucia once said that:
"The Rosary and the Brown Scapular are inseparable."
  • Mount Carmel is in the biblical land.  Mount Carmel is near the Wasi-es Siah, the traditional site of Elijah's spring.   The scapular has a rich Biblical symbolism.  The prophet Elijah of Mount Carmel handed down his clock to his successor Elisha.
  • The Carmelite Order founded in the 13th Century was named after the Mount Carmel.
The place of its first monastery.
The scapular is Mary's special garments -
a sign and her guarantee of her motherly,
her maternal love and protection.
